No Money, No Problem: Fun & Free Activities in Tampa

Tampa is a hub of awesome tourist spots, top-notch food strips, recreational centers and loads of fun activities. If you’re broke and don’t want to spend a dime but still want to enjoy what Tampa has to offer, you don’t have to worry. Whatever your interests are, there are a lot of options for fun and free activities that you can do. Check them out below.

Museum Hopping
Tampa is decked full of local museums that you can get into without paying a dime. If you’re a history nut or has a great appreciation for culture and history, this is the perfect pastime for you. The J. C. Newman Cigar Company, which is the last operating cigar company in Ybor has a small museum that you can visit. The Tampa Firefighters Museum, previously the Fire Department Headquarters, is another museum that has free admission. This is a tribute to the brave firefighters of Tampa and features historical exhibits and interactive displays.

Exploring the City
Exploring Tampa’s picturesque sceneries is another good way of enjoying your day without spending a dollar. To immerse yourself in nature, you can go visit any of Tampa’s many public parks and reserves. The Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park and Water Works Park are fantastic places where you can relax and enjoy yourself in together with family. There are wide grassy areas for picnics, jungle gyms for your kids and a splash pad. You can also explore the Riverwalk in order to acquaint yourself with Downtown’s many attractive spots and historic sites.

Beach Lounging
When in Tampa, it’s almost impossible not to spend at least a portion of your day lounging on the beach, especially if you’re looking for a fun free activity. If you’re with your family and kids, there’s nothing wrong with playing tag in the shores of Tampa Bay or even making sand castles and forts. Beach volleyball is also an option. Of course, if those are not your thing, then you can you go to Clearwater Beach Pier 60 for the nightly Sunset Celebration. Watch the spectacular view of the sunset as various local musicians do their best to entertain masses who’ve come for a viewing. During the weekends, there’s also a Sunset Cinema on Pier 60, wherein locals could watch a movie under the blanket of the stars. Don’t be late, the movie starts at dusk.

Manatee Viewing
Manatees are adorable creatures who are previously thought to be mermaids. During the winter, these gentle creatures flock the waters surrounding Big Bend Power Station’s heated water. Through an observation deck, you can view them lounging around the warm water and enjoying the respite from the chill of the season. You can also learn more about them through the educational displays in the mini-theater.

Fourth Friday
One of the best free and fun activities you can do in Tampa occurs every fourth Friday of the month from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Downtown Tampa. Activities vary from month to month but it usually includes live music performances, free admission to Tampa Museum of Art, Tampa Bay History Center, and Tampa Theatre. You can also enjoy a 1-hour free ride to Coast Bike Rentals, as well as the Downtowner shuttles, and Pirate Water Taxi rides. To gain free admission, you only have to get a free wristband from any of the event participants and voila, enjoy your Fourth Friday.
